In dialogue with a desktop calculator: A concurrent stream processing approach to building simple conversational agents
نویسنده
چکیده
Human spontaneous face-to-face conversations are characterized by phenomena such as turn-taking, feedback, sounds of hesitation and repairs. A simple and highly modular streambased approach to natural language processing is proposed that attempts to deal with such things. A basic version of the model has been implemented in the Oz programming language.

متن کاملRelation between Working Memory Capacity and Auditory Stream Segregation in Children with Auditory Processing Disorder
Background: This study assessed the relationship between working memory capacity and auditory stream segregation by using the concurrent minimum audible angle in children with a diagnosed auditory processing disorder (APD).Methods: The participants in this cross-sectional, comparative study were 20 typically developing children and 15 children with a diagnosed APD (age, 9–11 years) according to...
متن کاملAdaptive expressiveness: virtual conversational agents that can align to their interaction partner
Speakers in dialogue tend to adapt to each other by starting to use similar lexical items, syntactic structures, or gestures. This behaviour, called alignment, may serve important cognitive, communicative and social functions (such as speech facilitation, grounding and rapport). Our aim is to enable and study the effects of these subtle aspects of communication in virtual conversational agents....
متن کاملChorus: Letting the Crowd Speak with One Voice
Autonomous systems cannot yet reliably engage in an openended dialogue with users due the complexity of natural language processing, but online crowds present new opportunities to do so. We introduce Chorus, a system enabling real-time two-way natural language conversation between an end user and a single virtual agent powered by a distributed crowd of online humans. Chorus maintains consistent...
